Do you feel heard?

Many of our patients have told us that their doctor just doesn’t seem to be listening to them. They don’t feel heard and certainly not understood. Sometimes the doctor does not have the time. Other times the doctor just recommends another medication or different medication. At best, you might receive some general recommendations like “reduce your stress” or “try to get more exercise” or “try eating less or more…”

Do you feel understood?

You might have a great doctor, maybe you have explained to them what your concerns are but maybe they just don’t know what to tell you. Doctors today are trained to arrive at a diagnosis and match that diagnosis to a drug. If you are expecting much more than that, you will in most instances be disappointed.

Many people are frustrated with healthcare today, which consists of getting patients in and out of the office as quickly as possible. Get some tests done; most of which come back normal and if not normal another drug is recommended. If your health problem is a little too complex, then you will be sent to a specialist; who will run more tests and again more drugs will be recommended.

Healthcare today consists of going from doctor to doctor; each working within a very narrow range of specialty. They run tests that fall within their specialty and prescribe drugs that again fit within their specialty. Each of the systems of your body are examined in isolation. Never considering the fact that all of the different systems in your body make up the whole. Your body is made up of all the different systems and they do not function in isolation.

Who sees you for who you really are?

Who is looking at you as a whole person? Your body is not a bunch of bits and pieces thrown together in a haphazard way…your body only works well as a whole.

You are not your digestive system or your hormones or your immune system. Most of all, you are not your health problem! You are a unique individual and all of the different systems of your body need to be working together; in harmony. This is what health is. Functional medicine looks at you as a whole and your functional medicine doctor takes a very different approach to your healthcare needs.

The health problems that people are dealing with today are more complex than ever. We cannot continue to look at our bodies as isolated bits and pieces…that system of healthcare is not working.

Are you ready for something different?

The purpose of functional medicine is:

Understanding how the body works, knowing how and where to investigate health issues, knowing what to look for, understanding the significance of what is found and creating a plan of action to reverse and correct the root cause the health problems.

My wish for you…health, happiness and a better quality of life!
