You are not alone…

If you are reading this, then you are probably researching functional medicine or looking for a functional medicine doctor near you.

Maybe you are struggling with some big questions about functional medicine, such as how it works or if it can help you with your health issues.

Most of the new patients I meet are wondering the same thing…

  • What is functional medicine really?
  • Why doesn’t my doctor offer this?
  • Will my insurance pay for it?
  • Does is really work?

It makes sense that you would be hesitant about trying something new; that is human nature. We tend to avoid or pass on things we don’t understand.

Countless studies have proven that by nature, we are much more driven to avoid a loss than to achieve a gain. As humans, we have stronger “loss aversion” than “gain attainment.”

What do I mean by “loss” … loss of time, loss of money, loss of anything you value, making a poor choice or mistake or not being taken advantage of. The fear of loss has a stronger power over us more than the possibility of a gain or improvement.

What would a “gain” be in this case? It would be improved quality of life, feeling better, reclaiming health, getting what we want or feeling like we made the right choice.

You see, I could write a 100-page blog on what functional medicine is, how it works and how it could benefit you. You could be “very informed” on the subject and still struggle with the fear of loss. You want the gain, but you really, really don’t want the loss. I have already written countless blogs about functional medicine and they are all on our website. There is no lack of information available about functional medicine and how it can help restore health and quality of life. What you are running into is doubt, apprehension, uncertainty and not wanting to make the wrong choice…all of which stem from a fear of the unknown.

I can answer the most common questions listed above:

  • What is functional medicine really? A form of healthcare that restores health and quality of life; it is not based on a drug or pharmaceutical model. Isolates the root cause(s) of illness and reverses it through natural methods whenever possible.
  • Why doesn’t my doctor offer this? Most doctors don’t. They did not learn this in school, and they probably don’t know any more about it than you do.
  • Will my insurance pay for it? That depends on your insurance and treatment you receive.
  • Does is really work? It really does work. Does is help everyone? Of course not. Nothing helps everyone.

I have just provided the most direct and simple answers to the most common questions new patients have about functional medicine. Do you feel more comfortable about trying functional medicine? Probably not, but that is ok. Overcoming our fear is not that simple.

The only difference between where you are right now and where all of my new patients are is one simple thing. In spite of their fears and uncertainty they took a chance. They called our office and spoke with our functional medicine consultant. Then they booked their first consultation with me.

Did they know I could help them? No.

Were they still a bit uncertain? Yes.

Did they act in spite of their fears or uncertainty? Yes.

I want you to know that you are not alone. Probably every new patient I see has similar fears, concerns or uncertainties that you have. They however wanted the gain just a little bit more than the fear they had of loss.

Functional medicine may or may not be a good option for you. I may or may not be a good match for you as a doctor? Our office may or may not be a good fit for you. I may or may not be able to help you.

There is only one way to find out for sure.

Take one small step…one step that involves zero chance of loss; except for 15 to 20 minutes of your time. If you truly want help and ready to make for change, contact our office and talk to Lisa; our functional medicine consultant.

If you are not ready to take that step or if you are not truly ready for change, that is ok too. Take the first step when you are ready, and we will be here to help you to the best of our ability.
