  • Your probiotic must be soil-based
  • High-intensity interval training (HIIT) is the only way to exercise
  • Yoga is better than interval training
  • Saturated fats are actually healthy
  • Saturated fats will clog your arteries
  • Coffee is good for your liver and brain…coffee will ruin your adrenal glands

What the heck! 

Are you confused yet? We have too many “experts” trying to find a unique angle on every diet, supplement, exercise technique that they can capitalize on. Promising that magic key to unlock your health. How do you cut through the confusion and conflicting information? 

With the help of an expert who does not have a vested interest in any particular diet, supplement or lifestyle choices. 

Cut Through the Noise 

Start here…NOTHING WORKS FOR EVERYONE! Maybe your best friend lost 20 pounds on a ketogenic diet, but you gained weight. Your coworker swears by turmeric, but it makes you feel nauseous. Your neighbor fixed their thyroid problem by taking a thyroid supplement with iodine, but you have Hashimoto’s disease and it caused yours to flare up. 

 This is where functional medicine comes in. The basic philosophy of a functional medicine doctor is to find out what your body needs and then create a health plan based on that information. A doctor should not throw out recommendations to fix a problem if they don’t know what the root cause of the health problem is. If they don’t have a deep understanding of you, and what is going on in your body, how can a good recommendation possibly be made? You do not have the same body, genetics, lifestyle and challenges as anyone else on the planet! 

Want a Quick Fix?  

Do you want a quick fix? You probably do, most of us like the idea of a quick and easy solution for our problems. We all would love to have a quick fix for our marital, family and other relationship problems, financial issues and of course our health. Do you know what the actual definition of a quick fix is? 

Quick fix: “an easy remedy or solution, especially a temporary one which fails to address underlying problems.” 

Still want a quick fix for your health issues? 

Sounds a lot like taking a drug or medication doesn’t it? You have body pain? Take a drug. Have high cholesterol? Take a drug. Have type 2 diabetes? We have a drug for that too. 

If you want a quick fix, then functional medicine is not a good solution for you. If you want to get down to the underlying issues and root cause of your health issues, it is not only your best choice, it is your only choice. 

Well not really, you could keep throwing darts at your own health board and hope you hit the bullseye eventually. 

Maybe this is not what you wanted to hear, but this is the truth. I am not here to tell you want you want to hear…I’m here to cut though the noise, confusion and contradiction. 

The purpose of functional medicine is: 

Understanding how the body works, knowing how and where to investigate health issues, knowing what to look for, understanding the significance of what is found and creating a plan of action to reverse and correct the root cause the health problems.
